Turkey's prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu is set to meet with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the alliance's headquarters in Brussels on Monday.

The meeting comes days after two Turkish F-16 fighter jets on an aerial patrol shot down a Russian warplane. It was done within engagement rules when it intruded into Turkish airspace along the Syrian border, said the Turkish military.

The intruding aircraft was warned about the violation 10 times within five minutes before it was shot down, according to the Turkish military.

Davutoglu will also meet with EU heads of government in Brussels on Sunday to discuss ways to deal with the refugee crisis.
