Turkish Red Crescent says floods push Pakistan 50 years back

Turkish Red Crescent official said on Tuesday that recent flooding pushed Pakistan 50 years back in history.

Hakki Ersoy, the head of natural disaster management department of Red Crescent, told the AA correspondent that floods made several negative impacts on Pakistan.

Turkish Red Crescent has been assisting Pakistan since 2005 when it was hit by an earthquake, he said.

"Turkish Red Crescent started to exert efforts in Pakistan after setting up a crisis desk in the country on July 21. Foodstuff, health materials, water, tents and other humanitarian materials were sent to the country by 7 planes," he said.

Floods, caused by monsoon rains, have killed more than 1,600 people in the last couple of weeks and left 20 million Pakistanis homeless.
