Two Syrians died and another was wounded as they stepped on a land mine in the southeastern province of Mardin while crossing the border into Turkey.

The blast occurred late on Wednesday in Mardin's Kızıltepe district while a group of Syrians were crossing to Turkey from Syria to flee the escalating violence in their country.

Two individuals identified as Hılda Huseninof and Bashar Hussein were killed, while another 28-year-old Syrian were taken to the intensive care unit at Kızıltepe State Hospital.

Reports said the other Syrians in the group returned to their country after the blast.
