Amec Foster Wheeler has acquired the contract for the initial phase of expansion in the Copler Gold Mine in Turkey, the company announced in a statement Tuesday.

"Amec Foster Wheeler announces today it has been awarded the initial phase of an Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract by Anagold Mining for the expansion of the Copler Gold Mine in the Copler District, Erzincan Province, Turkey," said the statement.

Amec Foster’s contract included detailed engineering and procurement activities and the preparation of an open book estimate which will serve as the basis for the subsequent project phases with a deadline for the initial phase of work set in late 2015, and for the entire project in the fourth quarter of 2017.

"We look forward to drawing upon our global expertise in delivering world class gold projects, as well as our extensive in-country presence, to deliver this important project for Anagold Madencilik, safely and sustainably," said Roberto Penno, Amec Foster Wheeler’s group president for Asia, Middle East, Africa & Southern Europe.

Once completed, the Copler Sulphide Expansion Project will enable the facility to process 5,000 tonnes per day of sulphide ore over the planned 22-year mine life, in addition to the existing heap leach processing of oxide ore.
