Chinese carmaker Chery seeks expansion in Turkey

After two an a half years of presence in Turkey, Chinese carmaker Chery is seeking ways to grow in Turkish automobile market.

Chery sold 5,000 cars in Turkey so far since its penetration into Turkish car market, and this year, it has a target to sell 4,000 more.

Chery will launch two more models in November and hopes 50 percent rise in car sales this year, said an executive of Chery distributor in Turkey.

Gokhan Altmisdort, sales manager of Mermerler Otomotiv, said that Chery, top Chinese automaker, would exhibit Niche and Chance models, two C-segment cars during Istanbul Autoshow to start on October 29.

40 percent of cars sold in Turkish market are C-segment cars, Altmisdort said, adding that these two models would carry a price tag between 30,000 and 35,000 Turkish lira. (19,800-23,200 U.S. dollars)

Turkish car market expects 10 percent growth in 2010. Nearly 550,000 cars were sold last year.
