Confidence Indices for Services increased 1.6 percent while Retail Trade and Construction Sectors decreased 0.1 percent and 1.2 percent respectively over the previous month in May 2013.
The confidence index, which was 110.8 for services, 113.6 for retail trade and 92.6 for construction sectors in April, became 112.6, 113.5 and 91.5 respectively in May 2013.
Confidence increased for services, and decreased for construction and retail trade in May 2013, said Turkey's statistics authority, TurkStat, on Monday.
Sectoral Confidence Indices can take value between 0 and 200. It indicates an optimistic outlook when the index is above 100, but it indicates pessimistic outlook when it is below 100.
The increase in the Services Confidence Index stemmed from the improvements in business situation over the past three months and demand-turnover over the past three months. The related sub-indices increased 5.2 percent and 8.2 percent respectively in May 2013. Demand-turnover expectation over the next 3 months sub- index decreased 6.1 percent.
The decrease in the construction confidence index stemmed from the decline in total employment expectation over the next three months sub-index 3.8 percent in May. The current overall order books sub-index increased 3.2 percent comparing to previous month.
Optimistic outlook in retail trade sector continued in May as well, said TurkStat, and added that the decreases in business activity-sales expectation over the next three months sub-index 6.9 percent and current volume of stock sub-index 2.7 percent lead to a 0.1 percent decrease in the retail trade confidence index in May compared to the previous month.
