Consumer Confidence Index up in Turkey

The index of general economic situation expectation in the next 12 months which was 98 in March 2013 increased by 3.3% compared to the previous month and became 101.3 in April 2013.

The consumer confidence index calculated from the results of the Consumer Tendency Survey carried out in cooperation with the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey increased by 0.9% in April 2013 compared to the previous month.      

While the index was 74.9 in March, it rose to 75.6 in April 2013.     

The index of general economic situation expectation in the next 12 months which was 98 in March 2013 increased by 3.3% compared to the previous month and became 101.3 in April 2013.      

The index of expectation for the number of unemployed persons in the next 12 months which was 85.9 in March 2013 increased by 1.7% and rose to 87.4 in April 2013. This increase stemmed from the decrease in the ratio of people expecting an increase in the number of unemployed persons.      

The index of financial situation expectation of household in the next 12 months period increased by 0.4% compared to the previous month and became 91.1 in April 2013. This growth arose from the increase in the ratio of financial situation expectation of household in the next 12 months period.      

The index of probability of saving in the next 12 months decreased by 8.6% compared to the previous month and declined from 24.9 in March to 22.7 in April 2013. This decrease shows that the possibility of saving of consumers in the next 12 months period was decreased compared to the previous month.      

In monthly Consumer Tendency Survey, consumers' assessments on current situation and their expectations for personal financial standing and general economic situation have been evaluated, their expenditure and saving tendencies for near future have been measured.      

The consumer confidence index calculated from the survey results is evaluated within the range of 200. It indicates an optimistic outlook when the index is above 100, but it indicates a pessimistic outlook when it is below 100.
