Domestic trips increased by 2.7% in the fourth quarter of 2012, and 13 million 738 thousand trips were realised by the domestic residents according to Turkey's statistical authority, Turkstat which announced the results of a household domestic tourism survey on Tuesday.
However, the total number of trips decreased by 1.4% in 2012 compared to the previous year and reached to 64 million 922 thousand trips.
-Domestic visitors spent 227 TL on average-
In this quarter, domestic visitors made 91 million 448 thousand overnights. While the average number of overnights was 6.7 overnights, average expenditure per trip was 227 TL (approx. 127 USD).
In 2012, domestic visitors made 556 million 803 thousand overnights. While average number of overnights was 8.6 overnights, average expenditure per trip was 258 TL (approx. 144 USD).
-Most domestic trip for relatives-
Primary purpose of the trips was -visiting relatives- with 72.8%. On the other hand, the secondary purpose of the trips was -health- with 9.6%, and the third was -travel, leisure, holiday- with 9.2%.
-Individual expenditures are more than package tour expenditures-
Domestic tourism expenditures were composed of individual expenditures and package tour expenditures. While 97.3% of domestic tourism expenditures were individual (3 billion 33 million 886 thousand TL or 1.7 billion USD), 2.7% of it was package tour expenditures (83 million 115 thousand TL or 46.4 million USD).
Domestic visitors spent 3 billion 117 million TL (approx. 1.73 billion USD) and trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 8.1% compared to same quarter of previous year.
In 2012, total trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 6.9% compared to previous year and reached to 16 billion 725 million 35 thousand TL (approx. 9.3 billion USD).
While 94.4% of annual total domestic tourism expenditures were individual expenditures (15 billion 792 million 600 thousand TL or 8.8 billion USD), 5.6% of it was package tour expenditures (932 million 435 thousand TL or 521 million USD).
