European automotive market shrinks 6.7 pct

The highest decrease among the EU 27 and EFTA states occurred in the Netherlands with 36 percent followed by Romania (26.4%) and Ireland (20.2%) in the first six months of 2013 compared to the same term in the previous year.

European automotive market contracted 6.7 percent in the period between January and June, 2013.

Turkish Association of Automotive Distributors Tuesday released a statement based on the data published by European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).

EU and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) states' automotive market contracted 6.7 percent and 6,436,743 automobiles were sold in the period between January and June, 2013.

The highest decrease among the EU 27 and EFTA states occurred in the Netherlands with 36 percent followed by Romania (26.4%) and Ireland (20.2%) in the first six months of 2013 compared to the same term in the previous year.

The three markets that increased their sales the most were Estonia (15.2%), Britain (10%) and Denmark (9%) respectively, compared to the same term in 2012.

The number of automobiles sold in Turkey were 292,106 in the first half of 2013 and has shown an increase of 19.48 percent compared to the same term in the previous year.

Turkey ranked the sixth in European auomotive sales in June 2013 and the period January-June, 2013.
