Exports from the Mediterranean province of Antalya, which ships mostly fresh fruits and vegetables, textiles and cut flowers, have grown 100 percent to over $683 million since the beginning of this year, officials of a local exporter organization said on Thursday.
Textile companies in Antalya made shipments to more than 50 countries worth $61.3 million, a 31.2 percent rise from the same period a year earlier.
Exports of fresh fruits and vegetables, the main export item of Antalya, grew 34.5 percent and reached $348.8 million, which is a new record for the province. Fruit and vegetable exporters of Antalya expect to earn $500 million by the end of this year.
Exports of cut flower, which came to an end for now due to seasonal effects, dropped 1.1 percent to $29.3 million.
Total exports from the province jumped 100.6 percent to $683.1 million, officials said, adding that it is expected to reach $1 billion by the end of 2010.
