Greek Cypriot administration paid on Friday the first part of the cost of the electricity it received from Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
TRNC Economy & Energy Minister Sunat Atun said that TRNC had earlier given its excess electricity to Greek Cypriot administration which today transferred the first part of its cost.
The money will be in use as of Tuesday as it had 2-3 days value-date, said Atun, adding that Greek Cypriots transferred the money which equalled to 11.2 million Turkish Lira (one USD equals 1.787 TL).
Noting that Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot officials had been holding talks for the last two days, Atun said that the contract on electricity purchase was extended six months.
He said that TRNC would give its excess electricity to Greek Cypriots for the next six months.
On July 11, an explosion occurred at a military naval base in Greek Cypriot side which deactivated an electricity power plant. Greek Cypriot administration has been receiving electricity from TRNC since July 16 to overcome its energy gap. TRNC provided 26 million kilowatt hours of electricity to Greek Cypriots between July 16 and 31.
