Iran and Turkey would jointly produce automobile for Islamic countries, Iranian state TV said.

Iranian Khodro Co. (IKCO) Managing Director Mohammed Javad Najmeddin said that Iran and Turkey have started a round of negotiations on a joint project to manufacture a car, "D8".

Najmeddin said Turkey had a developed market regarding auto production and spare parts.

Turkey and Iran could meet automobile needs of Islamic countries, he said.

Iranian Khodro Company, also known as IKCO, is the leading Iranian automaker with headquarters in Tehran. IKCO was founded in 1962 and it produced 688,000 passenger cars in 2009.
