Islamic Finance Development Center to open in Istanbul

The Cabinet approved on Sept. 30 an agreement between the Undersecretariat of the Treasury and the World Bank to establish the World Bank Global Islamic Finance Development Center in Turkey, the Official Gazette announced on Tuesday.

The agreement was made in an exchange of letters between the World Bank, which proposed establishing the center, and Ibrahim H. Canakcı, the undersecretary of the Treasury.

The proposal letter states that the initiative will be implemented in İstanbul over a four-year period, ending in 2017, it will cover the development of work programs related to Islamic finance and it will establish a physical presence for the World Bank in Istanbul through the center.
