Mitsui & Co. Europe Plc, one of the largest trading companies of Japan and which has significant investments in Turkey, is planning to build a $100 million industrial facility in Turkey, according to recent reports in the Turkish media.
Reports indicate that Yuichi Aoki, Mitsui & Co. Europe Plc's representative in Turkey, remarked recently that the company is preparing for a production investment in Turkey. Noting that the investment would help lessen the country's current account deficit, Aoki said it will be one of the important Japanese investments in Turkey.
He also dismissed speculation that the company is exiting the Turkish market, adding that Turkey is critical for the Japanese company. Aoki stated: “Mitsui is a partner of the Toyota factory in Sakarya, a shareholder of Acıbadem Hospitals and Tempo call centers. Why would we leave Turkey, which has 4.4 percent growth according to the latest figures?”
Meanwhile, Belgium's Ontex, Europe's private label market leader in hygienic disposable products, has built a TL 60 million ($30 million) factory in İstanbul. The company plans to supply its Middle East and Africa market from Turkey. The investment will provide jobs to 500 people.
