New gas reserve found in Qatar

Qatar has discovered an offshore gas field containing 707 million cubic meters of natural gas, its first such discovery since 1971, in an offshore gas field to its north.

Qatar's Energy Minister Mohammad Bin Saleh Al Sada stated that the discovery carried great importance as it was the first natural gas reserve found since 1971.

Qatar holds the world's largest natural gas reserves with around 25 billion cubic metres and is the single-largest supplier of liquefied natural gas.

The Gulf state owns 19 percent of total world natural gas reserves, most of which is located in its offshore North Field.
