An agreement was signed for the Yunus Emre Thermal Power Station to be built in the central province of Eskisehir.
Energy & Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said at the signing ceremony, "the power station will be built in the town of Mihaliccik by the Adularya Enerji Elektrik Uretim ve Madencilik company."
"290-megawatt power plant will make a significant contribution to Turkey's energy production. The project will cost about 440 million euro," he added.
Cahit Nakiboglu, president of the executive board of the Naksan Holding, said, "once the power station is completed, it will employ some 2,500 people. We provided the loan for the power station from the Export Bank of Czech Republic."
The power station will meet 1.17 percent of Turkey's electricity consumption with its annual production of 2.21 billion kWh. The power station will lead to an annual saving of 150 million USD in Turkey's imports of energy. Also, it will be the first power station in Turkey built in line with the European Union and Kyoto criteria. The first unit of the power station will become operational after 29 months while the second unit will begin production after 34 months.
