The number of branches of banks rose over 9,000 in Turkey, the Banks Association of Turkey said on Tuesday.

A report of the association said the number of deposit, development and investment bank branches was up to 9,149 as of June 2010.

As of June 2010, there were 32 deposit banks, 13 development and investment banks and four participation banks in Turkey.

Three of the deposit banks were state banks, 11 of them were private and 17 of them were operating with foreign capital. One of the deposit banks are actually under the auspices of the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (SDIF).

According to the report, the number of bank employees was up 3 percent in June 2010 when compared with the last one year, and it was 2.3 percent when compared with October and December 2009.

Banks employed over 176,000 people in Turkey by the end of June.
