The number of tourists who visited Turkey in the first half of 2010 increased 9.26 percent when compared to the same period of 2009.

Culture & Tourism Ministry Promotion Director General Cumhur Guven Tasbasi told A.A on Sunday that while the rate of tourists was increasing, the rise in tourism income remained on 3.6 percent which was related with the global economic crisis.

He said that Turkey hosted 11,571,427 tourists in the first six months of 2010, adding that Turkey's 2010 target was to host 30 million tourists.

Tasbasi said that Turkey drew the most tourists from Germany and Russia, adding that the number of Russian tourists who visited Turkey in the first half of 2010 increased 25.30 percent and reached 1,257,630. He said that Russia might replace Germany --top tourist sending country to Turkey-- in coming years.

Noting that the number tourists coming from Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Dubai significantly increased, Tasbasi said that the number of Syrian tourists increased 108 percent, Iranian tourists rose 75.78 percent, tourists from UAE up 57.36 percent, and
