Turkey's Finance Ministry announced on Wednesday budget surplus as 3.089 billion Turkish liras (TL) in August.

The ministry made public budget performances in July and August, and January-August 2010 period, and said the budget surplus was 3.089 billion TL (2.073 billion USD) in August.

The budget deficit was 2.046 billion TL (1.3 billion USD) with a year-on-year 69 percent decrease in July, and 14.3 billion TL (9.5 billion USD) in the first eight months of 2010.

The budget deficit was down 54.1 percent in the first eight months of 2010 over the same period of 2009.

The primary surplus was 2.5 billion TL (1.6 billion USD) in July. Budget revenues were 21.7 billion TL (14.5 billion USD) and budget expenditures were 23.7 billion TL (15.9 billion USD) in the same month.

Both budget expenditures and revenues were up year-on-year in July 2010. The rise in budget expenditures was 1.6 percent and that in revenues was 29.5 percent.

The primary surplus was 2.5 billion TL (1.6 billion USD) and the budget deficit was 2.046 billion TL (1.3 billion USD) in July.

In August, budget revenues were 26.2 billion TL (17.5 billion USD) and expenditures were 23.1 billion TL (15.5 billion USD) with a 19.4 percent rise and 1.5 percent year-on-year decrease respectively.

The budget deficit was 1.5 billion TL (1.006 billion USD) in August, and surplus was 3.089 billion TL (2.073 billion USD). The primary surplus was 6.1 billion TL (4.09 billion USD).

In the first eight months of the year, budget expenditures were 183.4 billion TL (123 billion USD) and budget revenues were 169.4 billion TL (113.6 billion USD).

The budget deficit was 14.3 billion TL with a 54.1 percent year-on-year decrease in the same period. The budget deficit was 31.3 billion TL in the first eight months of 2009.

The primary surplus was up 127.4 percent year-on-year to 20.8 billion TL (13.9 billion USD) in the same period.
