Turkey says soon to start to privatize electricity generation

Ahmet Aksu, vice president of the Privatization Authority, said on Friday that they would soon start to privatize electricity generation.

"We will call for tender to privatize Hamitabat thermal power plant at the end of August or in the beginning of September," Aksu said while responding to the questions of A.A. correspondent.

Aksu said a decision had been made earlier to privatize four thermal production facilities apart from portfolio groups, noting they carried out works in privatization of electricity generation in line with that decision.

Aksu said asset sale method would be implemented in privatization of some electricity generation, and share selling and transfer of operational rights would be carried out in privatization of some others.

Four thermal power plants were earlier reported to be privatized apart from portfolio groups. They are; Hamitabat (1.120 MW), Soma A-B (1.034 MW), Can (320 MW) and Seyitomer (600 MW).

Nine portfolio groups have so far been formed. Three of them were comprised of thermal power plants, two of them thermal and hydroelectric power plants and four of them were only comprised of hydroelectric power plants.

Aksu said they were planning to transfer the thermal fields together with electricity generation facilities to investors after making necessary legal amendments.

Referring to privatization of 52 hydroelectric power plants in 19 regions, Aksu said legal process regarding that privatization was about to be concluded.
