Turkey aims to transform Business-20, the business branch of the G20, into a much more influential economic platform during the country’s presidency of the multi-national body.

This was the claim from the head of B20 Turkey, Rifat Hisarciklioglu, speaking on Tuesday.

During a meeting to promote and discuss B20 Turkey’s agenda with ambassadors from G20 countries, Hisarciklioglu said that B20 could play a decisive role in addressing global economic challenges where other intergovernmental efforts failed.

“Global challenges require global solutions. G20’s importance shows up in this sense because the G20 is the most supreme consultative platform to address the global challenges,” Hisarciklioglu said.

“Perhaps it is the only platform where we can take decisions regarding the global economy in a fast and efficient way. So, as the Turkish business world, we attach great importance to Turkey’s B20 term presidency.”

Stressing that B20 Turkey has prepared an extensive agenda, Hisarciklioglu said that they aim to increase the organization’s visibility and the influence in international area through G20/B20 joint summits and regional consultation meetings.

“Our task forces established to study trade, infrastructure, investments, financing of growth, employment, the fight against corruption and SMEs have started to work.” Hisarcikoglu said.

“We would like to see the B20 voice to be heard more in the international area,” he added.

On Dec. 1 Turkey assumed the presidency of the G20, which represents together 90 percent of the world's GDP and 80 percent of the world's trade.
