Passenger car and light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales showed a 12.38 percent growth in the first seven months of this year, according to figures of the association of Turkish automotive distributors.

A total of 339,600 passenger cars and LCVs were sold in January-July 2010 period, up 12.38 percent over the same period of last year.

In July only, passenger car sales rose 148.8 percent to 41,399 units and LCV sales increased 63.4 percent to 19,946 units. In the first seven monts, these figures grew 10.36 percent to 227,704 cars and 16.7 percent to 111,896, respectively.

Statistics also showed that share of diesel cars in total sales in January-July period rose to 52 percent from 42 percent a year earlier.

Recent figures revealed that auto market in EU and EFTA countries contracted 6.2 percent year-on-year in June 2010 and rose only 0.6 percent in the first half of the year.
