Turkey's foreign sales of automotive products were down 1 percent in the January-April period to $6.78 billion, according to data.

Exports from the country's automotive supply industry however increased 5 percent to reach $2.87 billion in the mentioned period, Turkish Union of Automotive Exporters said.      

Export of cars decreased 7 percent in April over the same month a year earlier and exports of cars between January and April dropped 8 percent to $2.18 billion.      

Exports of automotive products to the European Union were down 18 percent in April to $1.08 billion as exports to the Turkic republics were up 130 percent to $33 million and exports to African countries were up 42 percent to $111 million.      

In January-April period, automotive exports to the EU were down 6 percent to $4.68 billion over the same period a year earlier.
