Turkey's Bursa says auto sector constitutes 49 pct of sales

The Chamber of Trade and Industry of north-western province of Bursa said 26 percent of Bursa's 250 biggest firms were those in the automotive sector.

The Chamber of Trade and Industry of north-western province of Bursa (BTSO) said Wednesday 26 percent of Bursa's 250 biggest companies were those in the automotive sector and that this sector constituted for 49 percent of all sales.

Based on 2009 figures, OYAK Renault was Bursa's biggest firm with sales worth 5.77 billion TL (approx. 3.77 billion USD).

TOFAS ranked second with its sales worth 5.08 billion TL (approx. 3.32 billion USD) while Bosch ranked third with sales worth 1.14 billion TL (approx. 745 million USD).

The textile sector in Bursa constituted for 21 percent of all companies in Bursa and the sector's sales constituted 13 percent of all sales in the city.

The top 250 companies in Bursa provided jobs to 96,603 people in 2009 down 6.5 percent when compared to the previous year.

The automotive sector in Bursa provided most of the jobs in 2009. The sector employed 35,262 people.

The textile sector in Bursa provided jobs to 24,030 people in 2009.
