Turkey's exports up 10.5 bln USD in January

Turkish exports reached 10.5 billion USD in January 2012, Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) said on Wednesday.

TIM Chairperson Mehmet Buyukeksi hold a press conference in Inegol town of the northwestern province of Bursa to make public export figures in January 2012, and said exports were up 10 percent year-on-year in January 2012.

"Turkey earned 10.5 billion USD from exports in January 2012," Buyukeksi said.

Buyukeksi said automotive industry topped Turkey's overall exports in January with 1.6 billion USD.

"We have started to make public exports figures in two new industries as of January," Buyukeksi said.

According to Buyukeksi, those two new export industries are air conditioning and climatization and defense industries.

Buyukeksi also said air conditioning and climatization exports rose 7 percent and the rise in defense industry exports was 19.6 percent in January 2012.
