Consumer and producer prices indices increased in January 2012.

TurkStat, Turkey's statistics authority, said on Friday that consumer prices rose 0.56 percent and producer prices increased 0.38 percent in January 2012 when compared to December 2011.

Consumer prices rose 10.61 percent and producer prices increased 11.13 percent in January 2012 when compared to January 2011.

As of December 2011, annual inflation was 6.95 percent in consumer prices, and 11.11 percent in producer prices.

A rise in general index was realised in the 2003 based consumer price index on the previous month by 0.56 percent, on December of the previous year by 0.56percent, on same month of the previous year by 10.61 percent, on the twelve months moving averages basis by 6.95 percent in January 2012.

The highest monthly increase was 2.06 percent in the index for transportation by main expenditure groups. The indices rose for miscellaneous goods and services 1.79 percent, for furnishings and household equipment 1.58 percent, for housing 1.32 percent, for food and non-alcoholic beverages 1.13 percent, for recreation and culture 0.83 percent, for hotels, cafes and restaurants 0.75 percent, for health 0.09 percent, for alcoholic beverages and tobacco 0.02 percent, while the index declined for communication 0.01 percent, for education 0.05 percent, for clothing and footwear 7.88 percent.

The highest increase was 18.53 percent in the index for alcoholic beverages and tobacco compared with the same month of the previous year. Miscellaneous goods and services (17.63 percent), transportation (12.90 percent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (11.67 percent), furnishings and household equipment (11.65 percent) were the other indices where high increases were realised.

A rise in general index was realised in the 2003 based producer price index on the previous month by 0.38 percent, on December of the previous year by 0.38percent, on same month of the previous year by 11.13 percent and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 11.11 percent in January 2012.

Monthly changes were 0.97 percent in the index of agriculture and 0.26 percent in the index of industry.

PPI of agriculture increased 0.97 percent compared with December of the previous year, 8.44 percent compared with the same month of the previous year, 4.91 percent on the averages of twelve months basis. PPI of industry section increased 0.26 percent compared with December of the previous year, 11.71 percent compared with the same month of the previous year and 12.47 percent on the averages of twelve months basis.

The highest monthly increase in the PPI of industrial activities was recorded as 4.78 percent in the index for coal and lignite.

PPI increased 1.42 percent in the index for mining and stone quarrying, 1.07 percent in the index for electricity, gas and water, 0.11 percent in the index for manufacturing industry by sub-sections of industry.
