The chairman of Turkish national carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) has announced that THY will sign a sponsorship deal with German soccer club Borussia Dortmund, which won a convincing 4-1 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of the European Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.
THY Chairman Hamdi Topcu said in a statement on Thursday that the Turkish company is excited about coming to a sponsorship agreement with Borussia Dortmund, which includes many young, talented and successful German and Turkish players.
Also commenting on the agreement, Dortmund CEO Hans Joachim Watzke said: “We are very happy to be partners with Turkish Airlines. THY is a very powerful global brand with first-class service. We are glad that it chose Borussia Dortmund.” The sponsorship deal will be sealed on May 2, THY and Dortmund officials said.
Dortmund romped to a convincing 4-1 victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday, taking a huge step toward the Champions League final.
THY currently sponsors the Spanish first division soccer club FC Barcelona, along with the British Premier League powerhouse Manchester United. The carrier also remains the main sponsor of Europe's most challenging basketball competition, Euroleague.
