Turkish constractors meet US Eximbank chief

Director of the U.S. Eximbank Fred Hochberg said that they could cooperate with Turkey in the areas of renewable and conventional energy, foodstuff, agriculture and transportation, adding that the two countries could also work together in the third countries with equipment from the USA and contractors from Turkey.

Hochberg came together with a group of Turkish contractors headed by Association of Turkish Contractors Chairman Erdal Eren over a luncheon as part of his visit to Ankara.

He said at the luncheon that Turkey and the USA relations were built on the basis of joint confidence.

Hochberg highlighted importance of further improving commercial and economic relations between the two countries.

He said that Turkey was one of the countries making the most efforts to have a better economic growth rate.

As the U.S. Eximbank, we can contribute to Turkey to increase its competitive power by providing finance and undertaking risks, he added.

Association of Turkish Contractors Chairman Eren, on his part, said that there was a significant potential of construction investments in Turkey.

"But there are also risks in our geography stemming from political instability in the regional countries. We have undertaken rebuilding and infrastructure projects in war torn countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Our firms have also taken part in a number of investments in several countries including power stations, tourism facilities, industrial facilities and airports," he added.

Earlier in the day, the U.S. Eximbank and the Turkish Ministry of Energy signed a memorandum of understanding for a total of $1 billion loan to finance renewable energy projects in Turkey.
