King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday attended the inauguration of a new joint venture between Jordan and Turkish military electronics company Aselsan Middle East.

Attending the inauguration with the Jordanian King was Turkish Deputy Defense Minister Kemal Yardimci and Aselsan board chairman Hasan Canpolat, along with a host of military officials.

Yardimci said the new joint venture would seek to produce high-quality military equipment that would help bolster its presence in international markets.

Canpolat, for his part, said Aselsan's products would not be confined to the Jordanian market only, but would be made available region-wide.

He said the company would also seek to acquire new expertise in the future.

Starting in 2015, Canpolat said, Aselsan planned to produce information systems and electronic cards while expanding its operations to cover all countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

He added that Jordan was the most suitable place for the new venture thanks to its solid relations with all countries of the region.

Canpolat went on to note that Aselsan's presence in Jordan was a step on the road towards achieving international recognition.

Aselsan Middle East is a partnership between Aselsan – Turkey's largest defense company, which owns a 49-percent stake in the joint venture – and King Abdullah's Design and Development Bureau, which owns 51 percent.

Aselsan is a high-technology, multi-product company that aims to design, develop and produce state-of-the-art night-vision and thermal imaging systems for both military and civilian use.
