Turkish PM says no concessions on money policies

The Turkish prime minister said on Saturday that Turkey would continue on its way without making any concessions regarding its fiscal discipline or money policies.

Delivering a speech at Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association's (MUSIAD) general assembly, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said discussions on elections or referendum would not bother investors.

Erdogan said that Turkey's growing by 6 percent in the last quarter of 2009 and its economy's shrinking by 4.7 percent despite the global crisis were the results of the support and optimistic approach of Turkish businessmen, entrepreneurs and industrialists.

"We will go on like that. We have set the growth target for 2010 as 3.5 percent in quite a modest way. We hope to achieve such goal," he said.

Erdogan also said that Turkey would continue to take determined steps no matter what obstacles were brought before it.

"We are now establishing a certain understanding in our country. Elections are held on the announced dates. The idea of holding the elections at an earlier date and trying to benefit from such development is unacceptable. This is a mentality seen in under-developed countries," Erdogan said.
