Turkey created 711,000 new jobs last year as the unemployment rate dropped by 0.6 points from a year earlier to 9.2 percent, the country's statistics authority said Wednesday. The number of the unemployed dropped to 2,518 thousand, TurkStat said.
Urban (excluding agriculture) unemployment was down 0.8 points to 11.5 percent and rural unemployment (agricultural) dropped to 5.5 percent from 5.8 percent in 2011.
Youth unemployment for ages 15 to 24 was down 0.9 points to 17.5 percent.
Employment rate was up 0.4 points to 45.4 percent and the rate of participation in the labor force was up 0.1 points to 50 percent.
