The aircraft will be operational from Jan. 1, 2015, and will relieve Polish F-16 fighters that have been stationed there as part of the NATO Air Policing Mission.
The deployment reportedly makes Italy the first NATO country to have air force jets patrolling in four foreign countries, namely Iceland, Slovenia, Albania and Lithuania, the sources said.
This is in addition to Italian Tornado bombers deployed recently in Kuwait for reconnaissance duties against ISIL.
The Eurofighters will be deployed at the Lithuanian base of Siaulai. In all, there are around 60 Eurofighters in the Italian Air Force.
