Al-Jazeera has revealed a video shot by the Maltese navy of hundreds of Syrian refugees who were left by Libyan traffickers to drown in the Mediterranean Sea.
Survivors were rescued 160 km from the coast of Malta after their boat was sunk by traffickers after an argument about payment.
Almost 400 people who were on board a rickety fishing boat on 10 October were left stranded at sea. Women and children were among them as well as those who couldn't swim. It is believed that 200 people drowned in the incident.
Survivors are now being processed as refugees by the Maltese authorities.
A European Union meeting in Brussels this week is set to discuss the issue of migration after it was proposed by the government of Malta.
