Andrej Kiska, 51, has won Slovakia's presidential elections with nearly 60 percent of the vote. He will be sworn in June 15.
His opponent, Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico, received 41 percent of the vote, according to the results released by Slovakia’s Central Election Commission.
Andrej Kiska, the first independent candidate in Slovakia's presidential history with no political background, is known as a philanthropist businessman. In 2006, he established a non-profit organization, Good Angel, to help cancer patients. The organization has to date helped at least 140,000 patients.
