Finance Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar on Friday said that the economic problems in the Greek Cypriot administration and the economic disaster in Greece may create an opportunity for a solution in Cyprus.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), Ersin Tatar stressed that the economic crisis in the Greek Cypriot administration was evident for sometime but that the Greek Cypriot administration never chose to take preventive measures.
Reminding that credit rating agencies rated the Greek Cypriot administration as a region where "investment is not possible", Tatar underlined that the Greek Cypriots urgently needed 17 billion euros.
Touching on the process for a solution in Cyprus, Ersin Tatar indicated that "if an opportunity comes up where talks take place at the table under equal conditions and within goodwill and if world governments encourage, there could be a just and permanent solution in the island."
"Turkey's strength gives us power here. Turkey's strength changes balances at the negotiations table," Tatar also said.
