At least eight people involved in an international ISIL recruiting network were arrested in Madrid early Monday morning in police raids, according a statement from Spain's interior ministry.
The network finds and sends people to Syria and Iraq to fight, according to the statement.
The statement said that the leader of the network, was imprisoned in Guantanamo after being arrested in Afghanistan in 2001 and but now lived in Spain.
Also it was stated that the network has connections in France, Belgium, Tunisia, Turkey, Morocco, Libya, Mali, Indonesia and Syria.
The Spanish police have been following the network, which also recruits fighters for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), since 2008 the ministry said.
The ISIL rebels, in the last week have taken control of the northern Iraqi city of Tikrit, and seized Mosul and Tal Afar.Last Mod: 16 Haziran 2014, 13:31
