The European Parliament has approved the right of Moldovan citizens to travel to the EU’s border-free Schengen area without a visa.
The vote by the parliament on Thursday to approve the measure marks the culmination of visa liberalization negotiations with Moldova which began in 2008.
Commissioner of the European Commission in charge of Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmstrom, said visa-free travel for Moldovan citizens would be applicable from April 28.
Under the Schengen agreement, transiting from one country to another within the Schengen area is done without border controls.
The area is comprised of Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Moldavan citizens have to apply for a Schengen visa to visit other EU countries or a British visa to go to the United Kingdom.Last Mod: 03 Nisan 2014, 14:34
