EU Commission welcomed the activities initiated for the opening Yesilirmak border crossing which will be the seventh border gate between Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot side.
The commission stated on Monday that opening a new border crossing within the scope of Green Line Regulation marked an important step forward in building confidence between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities.
European Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele said that the activities, which started thanks to financial support of the EU at Yesilirmak border crossing, would offer new opportunities in the every day lives of many Cypriots.
The EU is contributing 2.5 million euro to the works from the 259 million euro aid programme for TRNC managed by the European Commission. Total cost of the construction is five million euro.
