At least five people were killed and 13 others were wounded in three different attacks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Monday, authorities said.

"Two people were killed and six others were wounded in a bomb attack in central Baghdad’s al-Kifah area," an Iraqi first lieutenant said.

Two other people were killed and seven others were wounded in another bomb attack in eastern Baghdad’s Sadr area.

Also in the capital, a man was killed in a drive-by shooting incident, security sources added.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces said Monday they wrestled control of three villages from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group in northern Iraq’s Kirkuk city.

"The Peshmerga attacked after the U.S-led international coalition launched airstrikes against ISIL militants in the villages," Peshmerga spokesman Hiwa Abdullah said.

The road between Kirkuk and Hawija district has been closed, an AA reporter at the scene said.

Security in Iraq has deteriorated since June, when the ISIL stormed the northern province of Mosul and declared what it calls a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

Since mid-June, fighting in Iraq has pitted the Iraqi army and Kurdish Peshmerga forces against ISIL militants.

The U.S. is leading an international coalition against ISIL in Iraq and Syria.
