Four people have been arrested across northern England in “Syria-related” counter-terrorism raids, police said.
Arrests were carried out in Sheffield and Batley, less than 270 kilometers (167 miles) north of London, and police said five properties in the region were being searched.
Two men aged 40 and 36 were arrested in Sheffield and are being held under an anti-terror law that covers preparing to commit an act of terrorism.
A 55-year-old woman and a man, 44, were arrested in Batley on suspicion of raising funds for terrorism.
In a statement, Clive Wain, head of the North East Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “We understand that people may be concerned following today's arrests however we would like to reassure communities that today's activity is as a result of an ongoing investigation which is intelligence led."
“There is no evidence to suggest that communities are at risk.”
In a separate operation, a 23-year-old man was arrested in east London by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of carrying out, preparing or instigating terrorism. Two addresses are being searched as part of the investigation, police said.Last Mod: 21 Ekim 2015, 14:22
