World Bulletin / News Desk

France will bring up the spying claims with United States to the agenda of European Union (EU) summit on Thursday.

French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault stated the case was serious and important, and that his president Francois Hollande would debate the issue in the summit.

On October 21, French Le Monde newspaper had asserted that the US National Security Agency (NSA) had spied on 70.3 million phone calls in France between December 10, 2012 and January 8, 2013.

The newspaper had reported US spied on suspects in France, businessmen related to these and French diplomats and announced that French jurisdiction was aware of the incident and had started a preliminary inquiry last July.

After the news was published, French Interior Minister Manuel Valls had noted they would demand information from US over the issue, whereas Washington’s Ambassador to Paris Charles Rivkin was summoned with an 'urgent' code to the Foreign Ministry.
