Friends of Syria to meet in London

As well as the foreign ministers of 11 countries which form the core group of Friends of Syria, the representatives of the leadership of the National Coalition will also attend the meeting.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague announced Friday that the UK will host a meeting of foreign ministers in London to discuss Syria crisis and Geneva Conference on October 22.

In a statement of Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Hague reminded, "At the UN General Assembly the Security Council adopted Resolution 2118 calling for an international conference on Syria to implement the Geneva Communiqué – which requires the establishing of a transitional governing body in Syria exercising full executive powers, including members of the present government and the opposition and other groups, formed on the basis of mutual consent" and said that to that end, the UK would host a meeting of the London 11 Foreign Ministers on October 22 to discuss preparations for the Geneva Conference, support for the Syrian National Coalition, and their efforts to "achieve a political settlement to the tragic conflict".

In addition, as well as the foreign ministers of 11 countries which form the core group of Friends of Syria, it was noted that the representatives of the leadership of the National Coalition will also attend the meeting.
