German, French FMs make first visit to war-torn east Ukraine

Visiting Kiev with his French counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Ukraine had agreed to abide by a new seven-day truce proposed by Russian-backed separatists and explicitly backed by Moscow.

German, French FMs make first visit to war-torn east Ukraine

The German and French foreign ministers on Thursday made their first visit to Ukraine's war-torn east since the beginning of the conflict between the government forces and pro-Russian rebels in April 2014.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his French counterpart Jean-Marc Ayrault arrived in Kramatorsk, a city controlled by the Ukrainian army, an AFP correspondent reported from the scene.
