Chairman of Turkish Community in Germany (TGD) Kenan Kolat asked the Social Democrats (SPD) and the Green Party to propose the dual nationality issue at the formal coalition negotiations with Merkel's CDU/CSU alliance.
Holding a press conference at the TGD headquarters, Kolat stated that he wrote a letter to the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and extended his expectations regarding the citizenship right.
He argued that the opposition parties also had responsibilities on the issue, stressing that Merkel could please both the German Turks and other expats.
Urging for the SPD and the Green Party to bring forward dual nationality right for expats in Germany during the coalition talks with the Union Parties -Christian Democrats Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU), Kolat said "Otherwise SPD and the Green Party will lose their credibility."
"SPD and the Green Party have to keep their promises," said Kolat, reminding that the parties used the multinationality issue in their election campaigns and gained the votes of several Turkish Germans by the means of related commitments.
He also added that they demanded an Independent Participation and Immigration Ministry to be established.
