The International Union of Muslim Scholars on Tuesday condemned a deadly terror attack outside a mosque in London that killed one person and injured at least 10 others.
"These terror attacks is against the teachings of all monotheistic religions and social norms,” the Qatar-based union said in a statement that denounced attacks in general. “Whoever the offender, they are forbidden by the religion.”
The attack early Monday, in which the suspect appeared to have deliberately ram his van into a crowd of Muslim worshippers near the Finsbury Park Mosque, is being treated as a terror incident, police said.
Authorities said the victims were all from the Muslim community.
A 47-year-old male was arrested after he was apprehended by bystanders as he tried to flee the scene on foot.
Abdulraman Aidroos witnessed the attack and told Anadolu Agency the “white British man” shouted “I am going to kill Muslims”.
Muhammed Kozba, the mosque’s imam, said worshipers who were performing the prayer were “intentionally” targeted.
The attack is the latest in a series of recent terror attacks in the U.K.
On March 22, a driver killed five people when he drove his vehicle into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge in London and stabbed a police officer. The suspect was shot dead by police.
Two months later, a suicide bomber killed 22 people at a pop concert in Manchester.
And eight people were killed June 3, when a van drove into pedestrians on London Bridge before three attackers stabbed victims at nearby Borough Market.Last Mod: 20 Haziran 2017, 09:31
