Protests held in Barcelona as Catalonia referendum marks first year

Over 180.000 people went on marches in Barcelona. Scouring the rubber rods, the cops dropped off the crowd of people gathered in front of the Catalan regional parliament.

Hundreds of activists invaded for several hours the high-speed trains; some roads and a highway were also blocked. The protest took place in other cities of the region as well.

Spain's Supreme Court has withdrawn its arrest warrants against former President Carles Puigdemont and his five aides who continue to remain abroad, but the charges against them are still in force, suggesting they face the risk of incitement if they return to Spain.
