A Frenchman who escaped from a Swiss prison where he was serving a 15-year sentence for murder has returned after taking 'a few days off'.
The 38-year-old, who was locked up in 2005 for stabbing a prostitute to death, disappeared while working outside the prison on Sunday, sparking a manhunt.
After going on the run, he wrote a letter to his mother, promising to behave himself while gone. He also said that he was just going to take four of five days off to get 'some air'.
"I will behave while I'm on the lam," he promised in the letter, his lawyer told AFP.
Late on Thursday, however, the man returned to the Geneva penal institution to complete the remainder of his sentence.
"As he himself had announced in advance, the resident presented himself last night to the establishment that he had failed to return to four nights earlier," a statement issued by the Swiss authorities said.Last Mod: 06 Haziran 2014, 16:45
