Russian FM Sergei Lavrov has slammed a NATO statement that condemned the “use of excessive force against peaceful demonstrators” and accused NATO with interfering in Ukrainian affairs on Wednesday.
Lavrov said he could not understand why NATO makes such statements and why the alliance did not condemn the aggressive demonstrations.
Lavrov spoke to a press conference after participating in a NATO-Russia Council meeting and said “whether Ukraine seeks closer ties with the European Union is "a domestic issue"."
NATO had condemned the excessive force used by Ukrainian police to disperse pro-EU protests especially in capital Kiev.
Protests in Ukraine started over a week ago when president Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign a partnership deal with the EU, which many Ukrainians saw as a step forward for future EU membership.Last Mod: 04 Aralık 2013, 18:01
