Members of the armed Basque group in northern Spain, Eta, have said that they have put some of their arms beyond use since declaring a ceasefire in 2011 and are now working for peace in the region.
”We are working for the consolidation of peace and coexistence in the Basque country”, masked Eta members told International Verification Commission (IVC) in a meeting.
As a group of international politicians and diplomats, the IVC has been negotiating with Eta. However, the Spanish government does not recognize such authority for the IVC and refuses to negotiate with Eta, labelling it a terrorist organization.
Eta has been in an armed struggle to create a seperate Basque country in the north of Spain.Last Mod: 24 Şubat 2014, 13:08
