Turkish Cypriot FM:Talks may freeze two years, if no progress recorded

Foreign Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said that if no progress was recorded in Cyprus talks by 2012, talks would be frozen at least for two years.

Also, resuming talks cannot be guaranteed after that date, Ozgurgun told diplomacy correspondents on Monday.

He said that if no progress was recorded in 2012, it would be understood that Greek Cypriot administration did not have the intention to solve the issue.

Ozgurgun stressed that EU's accepting Greek Cypriot administration in the Union before the Cyprus issue was not solved was a big mistake.

He said that the EU did not want a solution in Cyprus, adding that stance of several leaders towards TRNC proved this.

If the EU wanted a solution, it would put pressure on Greek Cypriot administration so that the Greek Cypriots would approach to a solution.

Regarding the Cyprus talks, Ozgurgun said that they could not make a progress in land, property and share of power topics, however, there were some developments in the EU and economy topics.

Ozgurgun also said that TRNC recently provided electricity to Greek Cypriot side following the explosion in an ammunition store, expressing hope that one day TRNC would also sell water to Greek Cypriots.
